Going solo? Travelling Alone.

With the advance of aviation technology, travelling from one country to another is becoming easier and more affordable for most people nowadays. Thousands of people travel across the globe every day for various reasons. Some do it to visit their family or relatives while others travel for business.  On the other hand, traveling is an adventure for many people who want to see the places that they have never seen before, to experience the culture of a different country and to enjoy nature. While it may be somehow convenient to travel with friends and family, it is worth taking full advantage of the travelling experience by going solo.

Those who prefer group travel think that it is more economical to take a group tour because of the bulk prices offered by travel agencies. In reality, this is not true. The claims made by the agencies are over-stated for marketing purposes to lure more people in groups and sell their products. In fact, travelling alone can actually save money. For instance, it is possible to get a better bargain for air tickets and hotel accommodation, which are usually offered at the last minute. These kinds of discounts are usually available for only one or two persons. In addition, if one has to cancel the trip because of unforeseeable circumstances, the cancellation fees will be less. Furthermore, the cost of food can be a lot cheaper.  A single traveller doesn’t need to eat in expensive restaurants and can choose within his budget without having to follow the decision of the group. This flexibility could considerably reduce travel expenses.

Another proposed reason for choosing group travel is often associated with having a companion. It is partially true that having someone’s company can be a bonus when in need of help. However, this is outweighed by the benefits of having a true adventure. Travelling alone enables a traveller to schedule things on his own terms. There is nothing more convenient than doing things in your own way. In addition, a lone traveller doesn’t need to go along with others because he is by himself. He has complete freedom to explore the new environment on the trip and visit as many places as he can. Many people want unconstrained flexibility when they are on holidays. Obviously, a lone traveller will definitely have more time to venture out into a new environment, and  learn from what he sees, which could help him to achieve a sense of confidence and accomplishment after the trip.

According to those who hold the view in favour of group travel, it is more enjoyable to travel with friends and family rather than travelling alone. However, this assumption neglects other complications that come with a group tour, which can be avoided. Needless to say, there is no responsibility to take care of other team members when travelling alone. This eliminates the burden of getting worried about other people. It will give a person the total freedom to enjoy the trip without any distraction. When someone travels alone, there is no conflict of interest with others. This allows him to avoid any arguments that he might have to deal with when travelling in a group. Moreover, travelling alone provides a better opportunity to interact with other people. The possibility to interact with people is an exciting experience for many travellers. These fun experiences will only be possible when travelling alone.

In conclusion, travelling could be “a once in a life time” experience and people should take advantage of it the best way they can. It is definitely not advisable to risk this opportunity getting ruined by others, such as fellow travellers, in the group. Therefore, by taking a trip alone, one will not only enjoy the pleasures of the trip but also gain a more intensive and memorable experience from traveling.
